As the days grow longer and the air fills with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, it’s time to bring the spirit of spring indoors. What better way to do so than by crafting a whimsical spring chandelier? When I moved into my current house, I decided that the guest bedroom would double as my craft room. Many of my family members are several states away so more often than not it’s really the craft room that doubles as a guest room! However, the ceiling fixture is very industrial and while I like it, this crafty bird was itching to make it a bit more well whimsical! I toyed around with several ideas, but with spring in the air and my love for all things magical, why not go for enchanting? I mean this girl likes to party too. Tea parties, that is, imagine sitting for tea in an enchanted meadow surrounded by fairies and butterflies dancing in the air. So, I set to work and embarked on a journey of creativity and imagination. Let me share with you the steps and some advice to bring this enchanting vision to life in your own home.
Materials Needed for My Version:
- Wire wreath frame
- Faux flowers in assorted spring colors
- Artificial greenery, such as ivy or ferns
- Wire cutters
- Scissors
Here are some optional or other materials you may want to use in your version:
- LED fairy lights or battery-operated candles
- Ribbon or lace for embellishment
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Plywood base
- Styrofoam wreath
Prepare the Base
When selecting the base, consider where you will be hanging it. Also, whether it will be permanent, temporary, or interchangeable. Since the ceiling light I was working with has string lights that are adjustable and can be moved, I chose to use an open-wire wreath base instead of plywood. If you are considering making one for temporary décor for a party, you could opt for Styrofoam. Word of caution, placing too close to a heat source may cause it to melt or catch fire. Please practice proper safety measures when choosing materials and assembling them.
Start by securing the faux flowers and greenery to the wire wreath frame. If you are also like me, I pick up crafting supplies everywhere. My flowers and greenery are from multiple sources. The ones I chose for this project come from Amazon, Dollar Tree, and Ikea. Since I used the open-wire frame, I secured my greenery and flowers by feeding through the wire and using twine. However, you may want to use hot glue for a more permanent solution or if you decide to go with a plywood base. Being of a crafty mind and always tinkering, I like the option of being able to switch out my flowers whether due to season, holiday, or just because I stumbled upon a new theme. Choose a variety of flowers in different shapes and sizes to create a vibrant and dynamic look. You can distribute them evenly around the frame for a balanced appearance or haphazard for a more natural look. I think I landed somewhere in between.
Optional Add the Lights
Once the flowers and greenery were in place, I added a touch of sparkle with LED fairy lights. I carefully weaved the lights through the floral arrangement, focusing on areas where I wanted to create a warm and inviting glow. This step brought the chandelier to life, evoking the magical ambiance of a spring evening. This is especially helpful if I wasn’t securing a light fixture to it. I loved it. I really did and I may add them back in the future but since it was being added to an existing light AND I really really wanted to use the LED lights for a different project, I decided to take them off. Hey, it’s a crafter’s prerogative.
Embellish!
To add an extra layer of charm, I thought about adding ribbon or lace. Weave some ribbon throughout or create bows to hang from the bottom. This decorative touch would have enhanced the chandelier, adding a dash of elegance and sophistication. But it wasn’t exactly the look I pictured when I thought about the end product.
So, I went on the hunt for inspiration and finally chose to add butterflies throughout to give it the enchanted whimsical look I had envisioned. I considered adding little ladybugs and fireflies as well. Even possibly create little fairies to hide in some of the daggling foliage. But in the end, once I added the butterflies, I didn’t think it needed anything else.
Hang and Enjoy
So now that I finished my spring chandelier and found the perfect spot to hang it. It’s time to marvel at its beauty. Whether it graces your dining room, bedroom, or craft room this enchanting creation will fill the space with joy and delight. Sit back, relax, and bask in the warm glow of springtime magic.
This delightful project will add a touch of magic to any room. Crafting a whimsical spring chandelier is a delightful way to celebrate the season’s beauty and infuse your home with charm and elegance. By following these simple steps and unleashing your creativity, you can create a stunning centerpiece that will captivate the imagination and bring joy to all who behold it. So, gather your materials, embrace the spirit of spring, and let your imagination soar as you embark on this magical crafting journey.
